Baptism is the rite of initiation into the Christian community, what St. Paul calls "the body of Christ." Baptism may happen at any age, whether infant, child, youth, or adult. We welcome all inquirers to speak to us about this important step of incorporation into the life of the Church.
Confirmation, according to the Book of Common Prayer, "is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by the bishop" (p. 860). The sacrament of Confirmation is open, therefore, to anyone who was baptized as a child but now feels ready to make a mature commitment to Christ, within the tradition of the Episcopal Church, or to anyone baptized as an adult but without the laying on of hands by a bishop.
