Outreach Ministries

Andover Thrift Shop

This ministry dates back to the 1940s at Christ Church, and provides low-cost clothing and household items to people in our community and beyond. It encourages the responsible use of resources, recycling and reusing goods, while at the same time providing them at a price that low-income people can afford. The Thrift Shop also provides a wonderful community of caring and support for those who volunteer their time. Goods that are not purchased within a short time are donated to local charities. Christ Church parishioners participate by donating goods, and by volunteering their time in the shop. For more information, contact Nancy Haak.

Habitat For Humanity

The Greater Lawrence chapter of Habitat For Humanity was begun by Christ Church parishioners in the 1980s. It has built over 50 houses for low income people who otherwise would be trapped in the cycle of poverty. Christ Church parishioners serve on its board (including the current President of the board), and can volunteer their time and talent building homes. In addition to our parish financial commitment, many people in our parish support Habitat through their own contributions as well. For more information contact Ted Lowrie, President of the Board.

Esperanza Academy - School of Hope

The Esperanza Academy (School of Hope) has been founded by the joint efforts of Christ Church and Grace Church, Lawrence. Esperanza is a free-tuition Episcopal middle school for girls in the City of Lawrence. Based on the Nativity Model of schools, Esperanza, when it opens in September 2006, will offer long school days, a long school year, with small class sizes and individual attention to the learning needs of the girls. Students must qualify by meeting low income guidelines, and some students will come as referrals from the Department of Social Services. Christ Church parishioners are active on the board of Esperanza, and there will be many opportunities for volunteering to make this school a success. For more information contact Laurie Bottiger, Head of School.
