Youth Groups - Spiritual Formation for Teenagers

Spiritual formation for teenagers at Christ Church is centered upon the popular “Journey to Adulthood” curriculum (or "J2A"), which is a six-year program intended to help shape a teenager’s spirituality and identification with the church through three distinct two-year cycles.  These cycles are called “Rite-13,” “J2A,” and “YAC” (please see separate sections below for a more detailed description of each segment of the program).  Our youth group program begins, therefore, with young people entering either 6th or 7th grade, depending upon the year, and runs through 12th grade.  Rite-13 and J2A youth group meetings are typically led by a team of three or four adult mentors and normally gather on Sundays, after our 10 a.m. worship service, beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m. until approximately 12:45 p.m.  There are, however, gatherings and/or trips for these groups, during any program year, which may happen on a day other than Sunday.  Our YAC group, which is comprised of our eldest teens and led this year by two adults, typically gathers only once or twice a month on a Sunday evening or at another agreed-upon time by the members of the group.

An opportunity for Confirmation preparation, typically taught by the Assistant Rector, is offered on an every-other-year basis for young adults who have either already completed the J2A portion of our youth group program or who are at least in the 11th grade.  Confirmation was offered for the 2010-2011 program year and consisted of roughly two meetings every month from September through April.  In addition to these two meetings, each young adult in the class was also expected to meet once a month with an adult mentor.  The next confirmation preparation for our young adults will be during the 2012-13 program year.

Registration for Youth Groups for the 2011-12 school year is ongoing.  To download and print out a Youth Group Registration Form, click here.  To read more about youth ministries at Christ Church, click here.  For a calendar of the church school year, click here.  If you have any questions about either youth groups or our Confirmation class, please contact the Reverend Kit Lonergan.

The design of these first two years is to celebrate the individuality of each young person and their creative potential. Read More
The design of this middle portion of the program is to engage youth with the skills and critical thinking involved in adulthood. J2A culminates in a pilgrimage trip that the youth plan and embark on together that many cite as the high-point in their spiritual journeys. Read More
The YAC program is a more service-oriented program designed to help our eldest teens to begin to claim their own ministries within the life of the church and the larger community. Read More
Barbara C. Harris Camp & Conference Center

The Barbara Harris Camp (or BCH), located in beautiful Greenfield, NH, is an Episcopal Camp and Conference Center owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.  Opened in 2003, this camp’s summer program has become very popular with Christ Church children and youth.  This program offers a tremendous week-long summer camp experience, in a Christian context, which is available to any child from 4th grade to 12th grade.  In addition, the camp is frequently used during the fall, winter, and spring for diocesan youth retreats, parish vestry retreats, and a variety of other purposes.  To learn more about the BCH Camp and Conference Center, please visit http://www.bchcenter.org/index.html
